September, mmm….It’s delicious out here, and the market habit is catching!

It’s peak season for many of our favourites, and a great time to think about “putting some by”, to keep you and the lucky people around your table enjoying the great flavours of home during the long winter months.  Many market growers now have Roma tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables by the case, on the spot or available by order.

Lots of celebrations are coming up, too, starting with Withrow Market’s Urban Heirloom Harvest Fest the morning of Saturday, September 6th.  On the 17th, beginning at noon at Nathan Philips Square, The Greenbelt Foundation will launch a new website with more market info.: www.greenbelt fresh.ca. That same day, a brand-new market just for chefs opens at The Brickworks, part of efforts to build effective connections between restaurants and local farmers (read more from The Toronto Star here).  And across town on September 20th, The Stop Community Food Centre’s Good Food for All festival will feature plenty that’s tasty and local.
